Committees

Committee volunteers are an important part of Habitat.

These are the people who work behind the scenes so that we can build affordable housing. All you need is a belief in our mission and a willingness to serve.

Fundraising/Special Events

This committee develops and plans new events and unique ways to do fundraising in the community. We are seeking people with skills or interests in event/party planning, creative types, and yes, some people who don’t mind asking for monetary support for an important cause. General “worker bees” needed as well.

Family Selection

This committee is responsible for identifying families in need who qualify for Habitat homes, assisting applicants in preparing applications, reviewing and evaluating applications, and providing timely follow-up to interested families. Committee sponsors are assigned to work closely with families to help them develop the skills needed for responsible homeownership and provide advice and moral support in the family’s struggle out of debt and into fiscal responsibility. The sponsor assists the family in contacting social service organizations if and when needed and provides confidential counseling and assistance to deal with family crises and situations that threaten the family’s ability to be a successful homeowner.

Public Relations

Communications is the key to success for any organization. The PR Committee is responsible for media relations and public outreach activities. The committee also helps plan special activities such as groundbreakings and special ceremonies.

Volunteer

Volunteers are essential to the work of Habitat. We need people to recruit volunteers for all of our committees, schedule groups and individuals to work at the construction sites, serve as site hosts, and maintain our volunteer database.

Construction

Members of this committee coordinate the construction of our homes from start to finish, including planning, permits, infrastructure, and supervision of all construction performed by professionals and Habitat volunteers. The committee oversees volunteer training and worksite safety and first aid. We are in need of skilled and unskilled volunteers.

Church Relations

This committee serves as the liaison to the faith community. Committee members provide congregations with educational materials and encouragement for them to provide opportunities for members to bear active witness to their faith. Responsibilities include planning activities for the annual Faith Week and Day of Prayer, making presentations to churches, and encouraging congregations to embrace the Habitat mission as their own and pursue an active partnership with Habitat.

Site Selection

We are always looking for property where we can build or renovate homes. This committee identifies affordable property for purchase and seeks landowners who are willing to donate property to Habitat.
